Space Enterprise Consortium (SpEC) Reaches 600 Unique Members, Achieving a Major Milestone in Network Growth

We are excited to welcome the 600th member to the Space Enterprise Consortium (SpEC)! The exponential growth of the SpEC network continues to pioneer the next generation of space technology and capabilities to support modern-day missions.

Designed as an alternative to traditional contracting vehicles, the SpEC OTA helps fast-track research initiatives and prototype development, increasing speed to award by nearly 40%.

By lowering barriers for top innovators in new space technology, we can deliver cutting-edge capabilities in support of space mission.”

This milestone comes at an exciting moment in SpEC’s history. NSSL, an essential program for maintaining space security and preserving the U.S.’s place as the world leader in space innovation, was recently awarded two projects from Phase 3 through SpEC, including Next-Generation Rocket Engine Testing (NextGen RE) and Upper Stage Resiliency Enhancements (U-Stage Resiliency). This, among other recently released projects like Space Vision 2030, will be instrumental in advancing the space industry base.

To further encourage growth and collaboration, later this month, SpEC members and leaders from across the nation will be gathering in person and online for the annual SpEC General Member Meeting. This year, we will be introducing a new networking event designed to give members a chance to interact and pitch their capabilities to potential teaming partners.

SpEC’s commitment to bringing new innovators and technologies to the defense sector continues to be successful with three-quarters of its ecosystem coming from non-traditional organizations. This group of emerging innovators stretches across more than 64 technology areas and are applying some of the most advanced technologies to space missions.

In 2017, the Space Systems Command established SpEC to connect the Department of Defense with a network of innovators and creators across the most sought-after emerging technology fields as they research and develop space-related prototypes. Earlier this year, SpEC awarded the management of the OTA to NSTXL to expedite the contracting between government and industry, putting advanced technology into the industry swiftly and rapidly.
