S²MARTS OTA Supports Local Innovation at Indiana Congressional Reception

July 15, 2024

July 15, 2024 – The Strategic and Spectrum Missions Advanced Resilient Trusted Systems (S2MARTS) Other Transaction Authority (OTA) attended the 2024 Crane Congressional Breakfast and Reception in Washington, D.C. where Congressional leadership met with DoD, Indiana officials, and Industry partners for discussions that included regional microelectronics and hypersonics infrastructure development. The event featured many Congressional speakers, including Senator Todd Young, Senator Mike Braun, Congressman Larry Bucshon, Congresswoman Erin Houchin, and keynote speaker VADM Johnny Wolfe, Jr., USN, Director, Strategic Systems Program.

“NSTXL was pleased to attend and support the Crane Regional Defense Group (CRDG) Congressional Breakfast and Reception this week. We engaged with Federal, State, and Industry leaders on the outstanding work that NSWC Crane does on behalf of the Warfighter and their commitment to a strong partnership,” said Doug Crowe, Vice President, S2MARTS.

Attendees heard firsthand accounts from key customers and stakeholders regarding Crane Government offices, including Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), sponsor of the S2MARTS OTA. S2MARTS, a 5-Star Member of the CRDG for the past 4+ years, supports NSWC Crane by conducting regional defense outreach and showing local industry support for Indiana’s congressional leadership.  Also in attendance was Mr. George Rumford, Director of DoD Test Resource Management Center (TRMC), the sponsor of the S2MARTS Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonics Test Bed (MACH-TB), which was called out by VADM Wolfe.

“NSTXL, as a key part of the Defense Ecosystem, met with many current and prospective S2MARTS members. As a 5-Star Member of the CRDG we also attended a meeting with Senator Braun to advocate on infrastructure needs for the WestGate and surrounding communities,” added Crowe.

S2MARTS participation in this event was significant, as the OTA was able to advocate for the development of critical structural technologies that would help establish a future of innovation in Indiana. As a locally-based OTA with a strong membership base in microelectronics and hypersonics technologies, S2MARTS is in a unique position to connect industry with local congressional leadership to enact real-time DoD innovation.
