RNI – Composite Materials for Radiation Shielding

S²MARTS REQUEST FOR NETWORK INSIGHT

Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), Strategic Systems Hardware Division is interested in possibly pursuing improving radiation shielding properties of polymer-based composites by either using various coatings or incorporating additional materials in the composite to obtain the desired characteristics. Potential applications are multiple strategic weapon systems and communications equipment, to include both traditional and non-traditional applications.

RNI Requirements: 1) Express interest in the search for solutions to alter polymer-based composites to improve their radiation shielding effectiveness. 2) Response must include a cost ROM to produce a 2in diameter 0.1-0.2-inch thickness sample to be tested at NSWC Crane. 3) Sample will be tested under different types of radiation.
