COMING SOON NOTICE – Posted 08 October 2026

The Joint Directed Energy Consortium (JDEC), supporting the Portfolio Acquisition Executive (PAE) Fires, Portfolio Management Executive Defensive Fires (PME DF), Project Manager for Advanced Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Effects (PM ACE), is preparing to release an opportunity for Directed Energy (DE) enhancements.

This effort will seek to prototype systems, subsystems and components to reduce Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) to support High Energy Laser (HEL) weapon systems. DE enhancements are intended to utilize the Enduring HEL (E-HEL) Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) strategy for development and integration of system improvements throughout the course of the E-HEL production effort. DE enhancements will seek innovative approaches to develop solutions that reduce SWaP parameters for an Infantry Squad Vehicle – Utility (ISV-U) based, 30kW-class HEL weapon system to support the Army’s acquisition decision in Fiscal Year 2031.

Key Focus Areas
The desired solution(s) for systems or subsystems must demonstrate significant advances in SWaP reduction while providing the reliability, maintainability, producibility, compatibility, and performance enhancements required for a new system or future insertions into the E-HEL production effort. Solutions will be categorized and evaluated under twelve (12) prototype pillars:

• Full System – HEL Prototype on an ISV-U based, 30kW-class
• Subsystem – Power Generation
• Subsystem – Energy Storage
• Subsystem – Structure
• Subsystem – Software Algorithms
• Subsystem – Sensors
• Subsystem – Network/Communications
• Subsystem – DE Source
• Subsystem – Beam Director
• Subsystem – Beam Combiner
• Subsystem – Beam Transport
• Subsystem – Thermal Energy Storage
