Request for Prototype Proposals – Posted 08 October 2026

The purpose of this effort is to modernize the existing Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) ground architecture by developing a prototype that replaces obsolete and difficult-to-sustain hardware, including Command Telemetry Link Extender, IOPlex, and serial cryptographic hardware, with modern supportable IP-based solutions. This prototype must expand and upgrade the capabilities of the existing Consolidated Relay Ground Station (CRGS) at the Mission Control Station (MCS) and Mission Control Station Backup (MCSB). The modernized prototype must be capable of supporting the full SBIRS constellation – GEO, HEO, DSP – and demonstrate compatibility with the Next Generation GEO and future Next Generation Polar constellations.

The Space Systems Command (SSC) is preparing to release a prototype project focused on the modernization of the Command Telemetry Link Extender (CTLE), IOPlex, and Ground Operating Environment (GOE) space cryptographic equipment (crypto) within the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) Consolidated Relay Ground Station architecture.
