New Opportunity Seeks Breakthrough Hypersonic Solutions Through S2MARTS MACH-XL 26

January 14, 2026

Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane and the Test Resource Management Center (TRMC) have released a new opportunity focused on an affordable, innovative demonstration of prototype high-speed weapon systems. This effort aims to showcase producible hypersonic capabilities across a range of all-up-rounds, launcher platforms, and weapon system configurations.

As global threats advance at an unprecedented speed, the Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonic Accelerator (MACH-XL) 26 program represents a critical opportunity for industry to shape the future of U.S. hypersonic weapon systems. This prototype effort will deliver the data and insights needed to accelerate decisions around follow-on production, integration, and fielding, ensuring the nation can rapidly advance next-generation capabilities. The Government is seeking bold, forward-leaning solutions from across the industrial base to meet this urgent mission.

To get advanced hypersonic technologies into the hands of the U.S. warfighter faster than ever, the Government is tapping into the Strategic & Spectrum Missions Advanced Resilient Trusted Systems (S²MARTS). S²MARTS, a rapid Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) vehicle, minimizes bureaucratic hurdles, enabling the program to operate at mission speed in defending against rapidly evolving global threats.

In November 2025, the S²MARTS team hosted an in-person Industry Day in Crane, Indiana, to provide potential performers an opportunity to connect directly with the MACH-XL Government team. Over 200 industry attendees asked questions, gained deeper insight into the new opportunity, and heard directly from Mr. George Rumford, Senior Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of War and the TRMC Director, in an impactful keynote address. Additionally, 70 teams met one-on-one with Government leadership to discuss requirements and explore alignment with TRMC’s mission needs. This highly engaged event helped clarify MACH-XL 26 objectives and enabled early teaming discussions, setting the stage for stronger, more competitive proposals.

Those interested in submitting on the MACH-XL 26 opportunity can visit the MACH-XL 26 opportunity page for more information. S²MARTS membership, hosted by NSTXL, is required in order to submit a proposal. If you’d like to learn about the benefits of membership, including the ability to bid on exclusive DoW projects, learn more about membership at NSTXL.

About S²MARTS

The Strategic & Spectrum Missions Advanced Resilient Trusted Systems (S²MARTS), managed by NSTXL, is the premier rapid OT agreement vehicle for the Department of War (DoW) in trusted microelectronics, strategic & spectrum mission, and other critical mission areas. The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane Division created S²MARTS to grow and engage an elite network of innovators, shorten the path to defense prototype development, and advance national security efforts.
