MACH-TB 2.0 Kicks Off at Highly Anticipated Industry Day
April 26, 2024
On 23-24 April, the S2MARTS team hosted an in-person Industry Day event for Multi-Service Advanced Capability Hypersonic Test Bed (MACH-TB) 2.0. MACH-TB is a program created by the Department of Defense (DoD) to reduce hypersonic risks and swiftly transition innovative technologies through MACH-TB stakeholders. With over 200 in-person attendees, this highly anticipated event brought industry and Government together to create interest and awareness for Phase 2 of the MACH-TB program.
Over the course of two days, attendees heard from Government speakers, attended technical 1-on-1 sessions and meet and greets with Government officials, and enjoyed networking events.
On day one of the event, attendees heard from keynote speakers George J. Rumford, Director of the DoD Test Resource Management Center (TRMC), and Betty McCollum, Congresswoman Representing the 4th District of Minnesota. Additionally, Shaun Davis, S2MARTS Program Manager at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, also gave an overview of MACH-TB 2.0 and the S2MARTS program.
Afterward, attendees were given a chance to attend a meet-and-greet session with Mr. Rumford, who provided technical insights into the project in advance of the RFS release. Over the course of the event, Rumford personally met with 63 companies, illustrated the vested Government and industry interest in improving hypersonic capabilities in the U.S.
Attendees were also able to attend breakout sessions on two technical areas: Systems Engineering, Integration, & Test (SEIT) or Test Beds. After lunch, attendees enjoyed more networking, along with exclusive technical 1-on-1 meetings. During these technical 1-on-1s, attendees were able to inquire Government SME’s on different technical aspects of the project and what to expect.
Day two continued with more technical 1-on-1 sessions; over 110 meetings took place with Government SME’s over the course of the event. The afternoon continued with more industry meet-and-greets with Mr. Rumford. With over 63 sessions scheduled in total, these private sessions were an invaluable benefit to S2MARTS members, as they provided more insight for potential performers who are looking to submit.
After a jam-packed two days, potential performers were able to walk away with the tools needed to create a proposal that is more in line with Government needs. MACH-TB 2.0 is a high-priority effort that furthers the DoD’s commitment to finding the best new technology available in order to preserve America’s technical dominance in hypersonics and beyond.
