‘DASH-MOT’ Hypersonics Project Awarded to Meet System Demands

February 28, 2025

February 25, 2025 – Fiber Materials, Inc. (FMI) has been awarded a multi-million dollar Other Transaction Agreement from the Department of Defense (DoD), through the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) Office, for the Demonstration of Aero Structures for Hypersonics – Manufacturing Optimization and Testing (DASH-MOT) prototyping project. DASH-MOT was awarded through the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane Division’s Strategic and Spectrum Missions Advanced Resilient Systems (S²MARTS) Other Transaction Authority (OTA) and will be managed by the National Security Technology Accelerator (NSTXL). FMI will complete multiple tasks set by the DoD, including the demonstration, testing, optimization, and scaling of hypersonic aero structures.

The development of hypersonic systems that can travel at greater than five times the speed of sound is a priority for the DoD. The DASH-MOT prototyping project addresses manufacturing improvements for hypersonic grade materials that are subject to extreme environmental requirements. The project includes several task areas to be completed by FMI with each task geared towards addressing these critical issues in hypersonic systems. The final deliverable will include process improvements to manufacturing ceramic matrix composites and demonstrated production.

NSTXL hosted Industry Day and Project TALX events, connecting industry with government leads on the DASH-MOT project. During the Project TALX, a diverse group of potential performers asked questions and heard directly from the government, ultimately resulting in more robust proposals. Through the DASH-MOT effort, NSWC Crane is expanding research for hypersonic systems materials and optimizing their manufacturing and testing.

NSTXL is focused on building a network of innovators and creators across the most sought-after emerging technology fields. Within the platform, NSTXL supports two OTAs, including the Strategic & Spectrum Missions Advanced Resilient Trusted Systems (S²MARTS) and Space Enterprise Consortium (SpEC).

Accessing technology for research and development can be challenging for government agencies. However, OTA government acquisition documents streamline this process so that your facility can quickly access the R&D resources it needs. S²MARTS Research is creating a more connected and streamlined Other Transaction Agreement (OTA) ecosystem, uniquely positioned to better establish the relationship between research and prototyping.

NSTXL‘s experts are committed to helping your government agency capitalize on trends in emerging technology.
